European school (XVIII) - Horsemen Resting in a Landscape

European School, probably late 18th century Horsemen Resting in a Landscape Oil on canvas depicting a group of horsemen and their mounts resting in a wooded landscape. A white horse and a rider wearing a blue waistcoat form the focal point, surrounded by other figures, horses and saddlery in the foreground. Distant buildings and a luminous sky give depth to the composition. The painting follows the tradition of Dutch and Central European equestrian genre scenes. The artist remains unidentified; the proposed dating is based on stylistic assessment and has not been independently authenticated. Dimensions: – Painting: 21 × 27 cm (height × width). – Including frame: 34 × 41 cm (height × width). Condition: craquelure, scattered paint losses, surface scratches and wear along the edges. Possible previous restoration and localised retouching; relining has not been confirmed. Presented in a later ornate gilt-coloured frame.
