Background Information: This finely worked flint arrowhead is attributed to the Late Neolithic period, approximately 2500–2000 B.C. It features a triangular blade with carefully retouched edges, two lateral barbs and a relatively elongated central tang designed for attachment to a wooden arrow shaft. The carefully shaped point and balanced proportions reflect the technical knowledge of prehistoric flintworkers. During the Late Neolithic, archery played an important role in hunting and possibly warfare. Arrowheads were essential components of prehistoric hunting equipment, while finely manufactured examples could also carry social or symbolic significance. Similar projectile points are known from both settlement and burial contexts across prehistoric Europe. The manufacture of such arrowheads required considerable skill. Flintworkers employed controlled percussion and pressure flaking to produce sharp cutting edges and a carefully shaped point. The central tang enabled the arrowhead to be secured to a wooden shaft, while the lateral barbs could help retain the projectile after impact. Tanged and barbed arrowheads are characteristic of several Late Neolithic and transitional Early Bronze Age traditions. Comparable examples occur within the Bell Beaker cultural horizon, which extended across large parts of western and central Europe, including present-day Germany, France and the Netherlands. Their widespread distribution reflects shared technological traditions and connections between prehistoric communities. This arrowhead provides a direct and tangible connection to the people of prehistoric Europe, illustrating the craftsmanship, practical knowledge and hunting traditions of communities living more than four thousand years ago."
