Pseudonym: "Par un valet-de-chambre congédié" This satirical gossip book revealed scandals and anecdotes about the aristocratic ladies at the French court. Due to the uproar, the book was officially banned and ordered to be destroyed by the Royal Court of Paris on November 21, 1826. Good condition. Authentic copy with the sought-after, untrimmed and rough paper edges. Evenly yellowed. Half-title and title page with a few spots and wear. 1 page with a tiny tear, 1 page with a wavy stain along the top edge. Rebound in a sturdy, simple, modern red hardcover.
