Étienne Pixa - The Pink Mask

Étienne Pixa - The Pink Mask

This explosive mixed-media canvas, created using acrylic on canvas and oil stick, presents a chaotic, deconstructed portrait on a deep black background. The image features a complex tangle of thick white, red, and green paint splatters, lines, and gestural marks forming a distorted, almost skeletal or technological face. The eyes are intensely detailed, appearing fractured and bloodshot, surrounded by the wild network of lines. A prominent, serene, and flawlessly smooth pink brushstroke mouth provides a striking, almost unsettling contrast to the frenetic energy of the rest of the composition. The piece evokes themes of mental fragmentation, the intersection of the organic and the digital, and hidden emotions. Artwork size: 130 x 100 cm Year: 2026 Technique: Acrylic and oil stick on canvas Signature: Hand signed by the artist on the reverse Provenance: Directly from the artist’s studio A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included, specifying the title, technique, dimensions and year of completion. Canvas & Mounting The artwork is painted on cotton canvas and is shipped rolled and unmounted for safe and economical international transport. Classically trained in graphic arts and design, he also developed a photographic practice in his youth, sharpening his keen sense of observation and visual composition. A self-taught painter since 2000 as well as a musician, his work revolves around improvisation and spontaneous mark-making. Navigating freely between abstraction and figuration, Pixa approaches the canvas as an open field of experimentation—embracing the unexpected, deconstructing, and reorganizing forms in pursuit of a dynamic balance. Centering intuition and creative freedom, he offers open-ended visual narratives that invite viewers to engage with the artwork and project their own perceptions onto the canvas. His practice explores the space between abstraction and figuration through gesture, movement and colour. Working primarily with acrylic paint, he combines spontaneous mark-making with layered compositions, drawing on the traditions of Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting.
