Étienne-Auguste Genty - Chalice - Vermeil, .950 silver - Liturgical chalice

Étienne-Auguste Genty - Chalice - Vermeil, .950 silver - Liturgical chalice

Solid silver chalice, Restoration period – Étienne-Auguste Genty – 1819-1838 French solid-silver liturgical chalice, made during the Restoration, between 1819 and 1838, and attributed to the Parisian silversmith Étienne-Auguste Genty according to the master mark. The chalice rests on a wide circular stepped foot, richly worked in repoussé, chased and engraved. The base features an elegant radiating decor of foliage, palmettes and stylized motifs, complemented around the edge by a quadrilobed pattern. The stem, punctuated by S-engraved bands and beaded friezes, bears a beautiful oval knot adorned with grapevines and clusters of grapes, an Eucharistic symbol directly associated with the consecrated wine and the blood of Christ. The cup, tulip-shaped and slightly flared, contrasts in its sobriety with the richness of the foot. Its interior is gilded, as is customary in liturgical goldsmithing. The piece bears several French hallmarks: poinçon de premier titre, corresponding to silver of fineness 950/1000, poinçon de maître as well as a guarantee mark attributed to the Périgueux office, identified by the letter P. The existence of provincial guarantee offices, including that of Périgueux, is well attested in the French system of control for gold and silver works. Era: Restoration, 1819-1838 Silversmith: Étienne-Auguste Genty, Paris (attribution based on the hallmark and historical documentation) Guarantee: Périgueux office, letter P Material: solid silver, first title; interior of the cup gilded Fineness: 950/1000 Height: 28 cm Weight: 385 g Very good condition. Some signs of use, fine scratches and wear to the interior gilding, perfectly consistent with the age and the liturgical function of the object. The photos are an integral part of the object's description and complement its presentation. They allow you to appreciate its condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment. The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery. Happy bidding
