Title: Sailboat on the Sea School: European Impressionist, 20th century Style: Maritime impressionism with a realist character Technique: Oil on canvas Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the tradition of European maritime painting of the 20th century, with influences from Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting applied to the maritime genre. The treatment of reflections, the agitation of the sea surface, and the light contrasts recall the evolution of European seascapes toward an atmospheric representation, while maintaining a figurative and descriptive execution. The precision used in the vessel also introduces certain elements close to marine realism. Maritime composition starring a sailing boat navigating open sea, depicted from an elevated viewpoint that allows appreciation of both the vessel and the extensive surface of the surrounding water. The boat advances slightly heeled among dynamic waves, with small human figures visible on deck that provide scale and vitality to the scene. Especially noteworthy is the chromatic play of the sails, where intense reds and oranges contrast with large black areas and a central sail of light tone. This strong contrast makes the sailboat the immediate visual focus of the composition. The sea is worked with numerous brushstrokes and clear reflections that describe the irregular movement of the waves. Deep blues, turquoises, whites, and grays prevail, creating a vibrant and luminous surface. On the horizon appear small silhouettes of other vessels, reinforcing the sense of depth and maritime breadth. The sky, resolved through gentle blue-gray to yellowish gradients, occupies a significant portion of the composition and generates an open and slightly misty atmosphere. The combination of figurative precision of the sailboat and a freer treatment of the waters gives the work a marked decorative and dynamic character. The work is presented with a black or dark wooden frame, of considerable width and stepped structure. It features different moldings and successive planes that visually lead toward the painting. Its sober and robust finish especially enhances the bright colors of the sails and the blues of the sea. Signs of use and small superficial marks compatible with the passage of time are evident. Condition The work shows a state of conservation in line with its age. Observations The work will be shipped properly protected and packaged to ensure, as far as possible, its proper conservation during transport.
