Escuela Impresionista Europea (XX) - Retrato de Mujer

Title: Portrait of a Woman School: European Impressionist (20th century) Style: Impressionism with Fauvist and Post-Impressionist influences Technique: Oil on panel Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the European figurative tradition of the 20th century, within a libre interpretation of Impressionism with a marked influence of Fauvism and Post-Impressionism. The use of intense and non-naturalistic colors, the thick, visible brushwork and the simplification of volumes evoke approaches developed by artists such as Henri Matisse and the French Fauvist circles, while maintaining a more traditional figurative construction. The piece seems to grant greater importance to chromatic expressiveness and to the pictorial matter than to a strictly academic representation. Large-format female portrait in which a young woman appears reclining on a divan, adopting a relaxed pose and directing her gaze slightly to the side. The figure wears a dark blue short-sleeved blouse and a wide reddish skirt decorated with floral motifs, leaving part of the abdomen visible. The composition stands out especially for its powerful chromatic treatment. The reds and burgundies of the skirt contrast with the intense yellows and ochers of the divan, while the greens of the backrest and the blues of the attire balance the scene. The background is resolved with broad brushstrokes in bluish, greenish, pinkish, and violet tones. The painting presents an energetic execution, with a thick, gestural, clearly visible brushstroke, especially perceptible in the textiles and in the background. The modeling of the face and body retains greater definition, creating an interesting contrast between the figurative construction of the model and the freer character of the surroundings. The arrangement of the reclining woman also links to a long tradition of female portraiture and the reclining figure in European painting, reinterpreted here through a chromatic language typical of the modern currents of the 20th century. The work is framed with a straight-profile wooden frame in a warm brown hue, accompanied by a fine inner metallic-looking profile. Its discreet character allows the painting’s chromatic intensity to retain all the prominence.
