Title: Peasant Woman School: European Impressionist School (20th century) Style: Figurative Impressionism / Costumbrismo Technique: Oil on canvas mounted to board Condition: Overall good preservation state, with signs of age appropriate to the period. Circle and artistic influence: The work is linked to European costumbrista portraiture of the early and mid-20th century, with impressionist influences in the freedom of brushwork and the atmospheric treatment of the background. Traditional attire and the direct representation of the subject also connect with regionalist and ethnographic painting. Portrait of a young peasant woman depicted half-length against a rural landscape. The figure rests her chin on her hand and directs her gaze toward the viewer with a serene expression. The traditional attire, consisting of a white blouse, a shawl in ochre tones, and a small floral headdress, lends a costumbrista identity to the scene. The background landscape is resolved with loose brushstrokes and soft tonalities, leaving the main focus on the figure. The work is accompanied by a moulded wooden frame with an aged gilded finish, classical in character and with simple lines. Observations: The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will require photographs of any flaws to proceed with compensation.
