Title: View of Paris ㅤ School: European School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Fauvism of an expressive character ㅤ Technique: Oil on canvas ㅤ Condition: Generally good state of preservation, with signs of aging and use appropriate to its era. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is situated within the tradition of European urban painting of the 20th century, combining resources of late Fauvism with a marked expressive sensibility. The energetic brushwork, the simplification of figures and the freer treatment of color recall modern interpretations of Parisian life developed after the early vanguards. The representation of the crowd and the urban environment acquires greater expressive importance than the meticulous description of architecture. ㅤ The composition represents a crowded urban scene in Paris, with a crowd watching an event that unfolds in the street. In the foreground a numerous group of figures is gathered, mostly seen from behind, resolved with rapid, dense and gestural brushstrokes. Their dark tones contrast with greens, ochres, blues and reddish hues distributed across the scene. ㅤ In the center of the composition appears a structure or building in front of which the action develops, accompanied by vehicles and numerous figures. In the background the city’s architectures rise under a troubled sky, built with curved and vigorous brushstrokes. The whole conveys a sense of movement, anticipation and bustle, capturing more the atmosphere of urban life than a strictly academic representation of space. ㅤ The execution is characterized by visible pictorial material and spontaneous brushwork, especially evident in the sky, the figures and the architectural elements. The predominance of grays, greens and earth tones, enlivened by small notes of intense color, gives the scene an expressive and dynamic character. ㅤ The work is presented with a frame of considerable width, finished in a dark gray metallic-looking tone and slightly aged. A clear inner moulding with a gilded profile establishes a luminous transition between the painting and the outer frame, visually enhancing the composition. ㅤ Observations: The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packing.
