Eric Dolphy – Out to Lunch! A highly sought-after first stereo pressing (with Ear and Van Gelder in deadwax) of Eric Dolphy’s legendary Out to Lunch! on Blue Note, issued in the USA in 1964 as BST 84163. Condition: Cover VG+, showing some light signs of age and handling but remaining in very good overall condition. Vinyl EX, exceptionally clean with only minimal signs of use. A beautiful example of this first stereo pressing. Blue Note New York USA labels, VAN GELDER and Plastylite ear in the runouts, with the original “25 Years Blue Note” inner sleeve. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s studio in February 1964, this is Dolphy’s only Blue Note album as a leader and is widely regarded as one of the defining avant-garde jazz albums of the 1960s. The music is adventurous, complex and highly original, with Dolphy playing alto saxophone, bass clarinet and flute. The album features an exceptional quintet: Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone, Richard Davis on bass and the young Tony Williams on drums. Together they create a unique and highly interactive sound, with highlights including Hat and Beard, Something Sweet, Something Tender and Straight Up and Down. A true Blue Note classic and an essential record for serious jazz collectors.
