Emmanuelle Pellet - Marry a Boor Acrylic painting on cardboard H : 22 cm L : 29,2 cm Unique piece, hand-painted, signed and numbered The work was published in the children's album/CD, La fille, by Jean de La Fontaine, which is attached to the shipment. About the work: The painting takes up the theme of the swing, dear to Antoine Watteau, to depict Love. Under a canopy of cherry blossoms painted with care, a chimpanzee in a dark suit embraces a bride who is swinging, with a veil and a pearl crown, one leg raised high. A troubling detail: the ape’s wrist is encircled by a cuff— a silent role reversal, where it is no longer the animal that is chained, but it who seems to hold, capture, restrain the human. This main scene finds a humorous echo in the foreground: a massive pug, jaws wide open, would be the bite of a small dachshund female with which it plays. This second couple replays in miniature the same dynamic of domination as that of the ape and the bride. The artist thus constructs an implicit diptych within a single work, where animals take the upper hand over humans. The intimate format of the panel reads as a pictorial confidant that can only be savored from a few centimeters away. An expressive and original piece, with impeccable craftsmanship. About the artist: A trained art historian, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before being awarded the Agrégation in Plastic Arts (3rd rank). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach. Her background today informs a personal body of work where painting mastery dialogues with a deep culture of imagery and art history. Her creations have been shown in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now part of private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.
