Emilian school, first half of the 18th century - Pair of children's portraits

Descriptio Oil on canvas mounted on panel. Dimensions: 38 × 45 cm each; with frame: 48 × 55 cm. A refined pair of children’s portraits linked to the Emilian painting tradition of the first half of the 18th century. Both canvases depict the young models with remarkable naturalism, paying particular attention to their expression, gaze, and the inherent sweetness of childhood. The painterly quality is evident in the smooth treatment of the flesh tones, the execution of the hair, and the care taken in the details of the clothing. The balanced composition and the elegant restraint of the poses reflect a conception of portraiture attentive to both likeness and individual expression. One of the two paintings retains its original period frame. Condition: generally good. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions.
