Émile Antoine BOURDELLE (1861–1921) Laughing Woman and Pouting Woman Two architectural crows in carved and sculpted stone, signed with the monogram circa 1929 H. 31 cm x W. 65 cm x D. 26 cm Provenance: Maurice Fenaille Collection A letter from Bourdelle’s assistant to Maurice Fenaille regarding these corbels is preserved in the Bourdelle Museum’s archives. Bourdelle created two architectural corbels in white stone featuring female figures, “Laughing Woman” and “Pouting Woman,” for which he was paid 20,000 francs on December 31, 1930. Antoine Bourdelle had been recommended to Maurice Fenaille by Auguste Rodin in 1907; he had then created a marble bust of a woman titled “Le rêve” (now in the U.S.).
