Rare enameledstoneware vase from the Longwy factory, France, with a decoration of golden starfish on a deep cobalt blue background, created around 1970-80. This piece immediately stands out for its intense, luminous blue, beautifully paired with the richness of the gilding and a marine decoration that is particularly original. The vase features an elegant globular shape, generously rounded, topped with a flared neck giving it a silhouette that is both balanced and highly sculptural. Its decoration consists of several golden starfish, harmoniously arranged over the body and the neck. Each star is worked according to the emblematic cloisonné enamel technique of Longwy. The gold motifs are structured by a delicate network of fine cobalt-blue borders, forming multiple compartments and giving the decor a remarkable graphic and relief effect. The different tones of gilding also bring subtle plays of light to the surface of the stars. The contrast between the deep blue of the earthenware, the bright gold of the starfish, and the finesse of the network of borders creates a particularly refined decor, evoking the marine world while maintaining a very sophisticated aesthetic. The piece bears on its base the Longwy faïenceries factory mark, with the remark Made in France, as well as the reference F616. The presence of this sea-themed starfish decoration is especially interesting. It moves away from the floral decorations more commonly found in Longwy’s production and gives this model a very distinctive and decorative personality. This vase could suit a high-end, contemporary interior, displayed alone on a console, a bookcase, or a dresser, as its silhouette and its very deep blue are enough to create a focal point. It would also work very well in: - an Art Deco interior; - a 1940s–1950s decoration; - a chic seaside interior, but rather sophisticated than “nautical” in the classic sense; - a contemporary Mediterranean interior, with stone, wood and natural tones; - a blue-and-gold decoration, very elegant; - or even a contemporary minimalist interior where it would become the standout piece. Photo 6 will help you envision a room with this splendid and rare vase from the 1970s.
