Elegant Bar Brooch with Diamonds in Platinum on Gold, c. 1930 & later

This brooch made of diamonds in platinum shines bright and white. Its design presents seven old-cut diamonds set alternately in round frames and carré settings placed on top. 32 smaller rose cut diamonds set every possible part of the brooch's surface. A total of around 1.18 ct of diamonds are set. The brooch is designed symmetrically, with a slight emphasis on the center. Its elongated shape is typical of so-called bar brooches or "broochettes" of the early 20th century. However, it began its life as the centerpiece of a bracelet, as the now stiffened joints on the underside of the brooch reveal. Nevertheless, its form is absolutely convincing. We discovered the piece of jewellery as it is here in Berlin. It is a beautiful, everyday example of the fine craftsmanship and cool aesthetics of Art Deco.
