EGYPTIAN STEATITE SCARAB WITH HIEROGLYPHS IN GOLD PENDANT
ew Kingdom, ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A pale steatite scarab with a convex back and schematically rendered head. The flat underside is engraved with hieroglyphic signs. Set in a hallmarked 18K gold pendant mount, the scarab is enclosed by an oval frame with a knop terminal below and a circular suspension ring above. Size: 29mm x 13mm; Weight: 2.9g Provenance: UK private collection; London market; ex Oxford collection, 1990s.
