Egon Schiele: “Akt mit grünen Strümpfen, 1918”. Signed on the plate. Authorized offset lithograph, produced premium pearl satin with high color intensity. Condition: the work is in excellent condition. Egon Schiele (1890-1918) was one of the most radical figures of Austrian Expressionism. A protegé of Gustav Klimt, he developed a very personal visual language characterized by angular lines, distorted anatomy, raw erotism, and an unwavering psychological intensity. His work broke decisively with the academic ideals of beauty and instead focused on vulnerability, sexuality, and existential tension. Despite his short life, cut short by the Spanish flu at only 28, Schiele produced an extraordinary amount of drawings, watercolors, and paintings that deeply shaped modern figurative art. In the art market, Schiele’s works are among the most sought-after from the early 20th century. Large oil paintings regularly reach tens of millions of euros at auction, while works on paper, especially signed, well-preserved drawings and watercolors, are also highly valued and often achieve seven-figure prices. His scarcity, historical importance and unmistakable style form the basis for a consistently strong and resilient market demand. This specific expressionist artwork shows a reclining female nude in a striking, dynamic pose. The woman lies on her back or side with her legs raised high and turned toward the viewer. This creates a strongly foreshortened perspective. Schiele radically breaks with traditional, passive ideals of female nude by choosing a raw, angular, and direct anatomical representation. The body is depicted largely in pale, realistic tones with subtle red accents on the cheeks and nipples. This stands in sharp contrast to the deep olive-green color of the stockings covering her legs, which immediately forms the visual focus of the work. Her feet protrude in simple beige laced shoes with heels. The work is composed with the sharp, decisive lines typical of Schiele in black crayon and gouache. The background is completely empty and neutrally left, which further emphasizes the physical and emotional presence of the model. As is often the case in Schiele’s Viennese modernism (influenced by Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis), the pose reflects inner tension, intimacy, and discomfort rather than pure aesthetic beauty or erotica. Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage area between protective acid-free paper. The displayed photos are part of the description.
