Beautiful, harmonious set of two bronze cast wall reliefs featuring the iconic depiction of the “Schutzmantelmadonna,” designed by the globally respected German goldsmith, sculptor, and sacred artist Egino Weinert (1920–2012). His modern-sacral artworks are highly cherished by collectors, and several of his creations are part of the Vatican Museums’ collection. The objects are produced in Weinert’s distinctive post-war, expressionist style (Mid-Century Modern). The sleek, elongated forms and the large, almond-shaped eyes hark back, on the one hand, to medieval Romanesque art, while the rough, expressive texture of the bronze lends the work a powerful, modern character. The relief shows the Holy Mary with the Christ Child in her arms. With a gentle gesture she spreads her monumental mantle, under which a group of praying believers finds refuge and symbolic protection. Unique duo-set & provenance: This lot contains exactly the same detailed motif in two different scales (a large wall relief of 23×13 cm and a smaller plaque of 11×6.5 cm), making it a rare and highly decorative collectible set. Together the reliefs weigh approximately 800 grams.
