Edward Hopper: “New York Office, 1962”. Signed on the plate. Condition: this offset lithograph is in very good condition. Format: 44 x 31 cm. The confrontations between nature and civilization in Hopper's early works gave way in later years to studies of man in his urban environment. In this painting, dominated by geometric shapes, the viewer's gaze is drawn to the sun-drenched figure of a woman. She resembles a movie star, framed by a window that is at once a screen and a mirror reflecting the viewer's desires. Here Hopper repeats an idea he used in “Office at Night” from 1940. But while the earlier work shows a woman with an overtly seductive figure and a man, the 1962 painting is less explicit. Here we see an example of Hopper's tendency in later years to almost completely hide the sexual element that dominates some of his paintings, but without diminishing impact. Never framed and kept in a dark archive storage between protective acid-free paper. The displayed photos are part of the description.
