Extremely scarce 1942 airmail and Special Delivery cover signed "E.H. O'Hare / Lt Cmdr USN" by Lieutenant Commander Edward "Butch" O'Hare. Postmarked Pensacola, Florida in 1942, the same year O'Hare became the U.S. Navy's first flying ace and the first naval aviator of World War II to receive the Medal of Honor. O'Hare was killed in action on November 26, 1943, at just 29 years old, resulting in an exceptionally scarce autograph with a very limited period in which signatures could have been obtained following his rise to national prominence. In 1949, Chicago's Orchard Field Airport was renamed O'Hare International Airport in his honor, making him the namesake of one of America's most recognizable airports. An important wartime signature with exceptional World War II and aviation history associations. Estimate $1,000 - $2,000
