Rare EDUCA stereoscopic viewer – UNIS-FRANCE with original storage cabinet and a large collection of 40 glass photographic plates. Ancient French EDUCA stereoscopic viewer, bearing its original plate: EDUCA – Sté Anonyme, 70 Rue de l’Aqueduc, Paris – Apparatus and processes patented S.G.D.G. – UNIS-FRANCE. Beautiful antique wooden device designed for observing stereoscopic photographs in relief. The viewer is accompanied by its original lower cabinet specially intended for storing the glass plates. The set includes 40 large glass photographic plates. Each plate contains 24 small photographs corresponding to 12 different stereoscopic views, i.e., about 480 stereoscopic views for the entire collection. The plates feature a wide variety of subjects and constitute a true photographic journey through France: Paris and its monuments, castles, towns and villages, architecture, churches and historic monuments, mountain landscapes and snowy scenes, coastlines and ports, natural sites, French regions and historic tourist sites. The photographs retain very good legibility and an excellent rendering when viewed in the viewer, with a beautiful stereoscopic depth effect. Several photographs taken directly through the oculars are shown in the listing to illustrate the actual result obtained with the device. The mechanism is functional. The plates can be inserted into the viewer and the different views selected thanks to the shifting mechanism. Focusing is done at the oculars. The lower cabinet allows for vertical storage of the many plates in their compartments. The upper part of the viewer and the storage cabinet can also be separated and reassembled, which facilitates handling and transport. The whole is in a good state of preservation for its age, with the normal signs of use and time visible in the photographs. One plate has a small chip on its upper edge, with no impact on the photographs or their viewing. A small upper element/knob also shows a slight chip. These details are reported for transparency. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow precise appreciation of the condition, construction, mechanism, plates, and the quality of the views. Shipped insured with tracking. Given the fragility and value of this antique set, the viewer and the glass plates will be packed separately and protected with great care, using multiple layers of protection and reinforced packaging to minimize the risk of shock or breakage during transport. Particular attention will be paid to individual protection and immobilization of the glass plates inside the package.
