Fascinating numbered edition 410 on cuve vellum and illustrated with this fantastic and macabre tale that condenses several of the most singular features of the American writer’s universe - The original text, known in English as King Pest, plunges the reader into an imaginary London ravaged by a plague and turns this catastrophe into an adventure that is grotesque, unsettling, satirical and deeply theatrical - Two sailors, Legs and Hugh Tarpaulin, coarse, impetuous, and given to drink, find themselves drawn into an increasingly strange situation after entering a forbidden quarter of the city while the plague rages - Their flight from the authorities and their search for shelter lead them into a closed and eerie space where they discover a gathering of extravagant characters assembled around a grotesque sovereign who proclaims himself King Pest - Edgar Poe / J. Hammann - Le Roi Peste - 1925 - René Kieffer - 36 leaves Good condition of the binding, softcover in its original full illustrated flexible wrap, light wear, smooth, blank spine, first cover nicely illustrated in color - Good interior condition, paper uniformly browning, title page printed in red and black and adorned with a fine color vignette, work enriched with numerous and beautiful color engravings intercalated in the text, after the drawings of J. Hammann, a fine numbered copy 410 on cuve vellum - Delivery service guaranteed within a few days –
