Edgar Degas (1834-1917) - after - Sculpture

A particularly decorative bronze sculpture of a young ballerina, executed after the world-famous work La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans by Edgar Degas (1834–1917). The dancer is depicted in the characteristic elegant pose: head held proudly high, hands behind the back and one leg extended forward. Especially the refined details in the face, the hair with a bow, the snug bodice and the richly pleated skirt give the sculpture a strong presence. The bronze has a beautiful dark brown, warm patina, with the higher parts subtly highlighted. This nicely emphasizes the modeling and the different textures. On the bronze base is the signature “Degas.” In addition, the sculpture is equipped with a round bronze plaque/seal with among other things “Bronze Garantie Paris” and “JB Déposé.” These markings are clearly visible in the photos. The whole thing rests on a heavy black marble/natural stone pedestal with light veining, which contrasts nicely with the warm bronze. A very atmospheric work of art that fits excellently in both classical and modern interiors and, thanks to the recognizable subject, especially appealing to lovers of figurative bronze sculptures and ballet.
