- Oil on canvas. Original canvas. - In the portrait of Cardinal Camillo Astalli, Diego Velázquez masterfully captures the duality between institutional composure and the psychological pulse of the individual. Framed within the dynamic Papal Court during his second journey to Italy, the Sevillian painter deploys a mature gaze, free from the analytical rigidity of his youth, to delve into the moral physiognomy of the subject. Astalli — an emerging figure, driven and later disgraced under Pope Innocent X — is not portrayed as a mere ecclesiastical hierarch, but as a man caught in the tension of power. Through extraordinarily fluent and concise brushwork, Velázquez suggests the vivacity contained in the cardinal’s eyes and the subtle arch of his expression, revealing ambition, prudence, and a buried vulnerability. - Image dimensions without frame: 30 x 40 cm / 40 x 50 cm with exclusive custom frame. At Montbaron Gallery, we are pleased to offer our clients an exclusive selection of artworks, all unique, original, and unrepeatable. Each piece in our gallery results from deep dedication, a creative vision, and masterful technique—characteristics that guarantee its authenticity. Originality is the foundation of our commitment to excellence, and therefore every painting or sculpture that forms part of our collection is carefully selected to ensure its uniqueness. Acquiring a work from Montbaron Gallery means owning an unrepeatable piece, an investment in creativity and talent that, over time, will retain both artistic and emotional value. Thus, we guarantee that every work leaving our gallery is a one-of-a-kind piece in the world, with no replicas, and a testament to the innovation and passion of the artists we work with. Certain lots, due to their age and value, require an export permit granted by the Ministry of Culture. Although it is an administrative procedure, it is essential to ensure the authenticity of the work and its free circulation internationally. Montbaron Gallery commits to offering its clients original, unique, and unrepeatable artworks, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of each piece in our collection. The Certificate of Guarantee includes complete details about the piece, such as author, date of creation, technique used, and dimensions. The digital Certificate of Guarantee will be issued upon the client’s request, providing an official reference for the acquired piece. This document will be sent in digital format and signed by an art historian from our gallery, ensuring its validity and support. We are committed to client satisfaction and confidence, so any questions about the authenticity or condition of the work will be addressed professionally and diligently.
