All auctions / Asian Art / Early Mexican Folk Art Candelabras, Painted Wood (pr)
Latin America, Mexico. A matched pair of large painted wood candelabras of arched, fan-shaped form, each constructed from rounded wooden members joined at angular intervals and retaining their original polychrome surface in ochre, celadon, and verdigris, the paint worn to a pleasing patina consistent with decades of use. Objects of this scale and form are characteristic of Mexican folk devotional craft traditions, likely intended for altar or processional use, where their generous proportions would have accommodated rows of votive candles in ceremonial settings.
