E. García - Mano y espinas XL

"Hand and Thorns" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work builds a symbolic, almost surreal scene in which a monumental white hand occupies the center of the composition. Represented as a stone sculpture, the hand rises above an intense yellow-green plane, while a red poppy appears suspended to one side and a thorny branch rests in the foreground. The composition is organized through large geometric surfaces and strong contrasts among yellow, blue, green, red, white, and black. The dark architectural portion on the side introduces depth and monumentality, while the hand’s disproportionate scale transforms a recognizable urban space into an enigmatic scene. The flower and the thorns provide a visual tension between fragility and threat, beauty and pain. The use of isolated objects, changes in scale, and unexpected associations bring the work closer to the languages of Surrealism and metaphysical painting, with visual echoes of René Magritte and Giorgio de Chirico, understood as aesthetic references rather than attributions. At the same time, the intensity of the color lends a clearly contemporary character. A figurative painting of strong symbolic content that invites an open reading about vulnerability, protection, pain, and desire. Especially appealing to collectors interested in Surrealism, symbolism, metaphysical painting, contemporary figurative art, architecture, hands, flowers, and conceptual compositions.
