E. García - La flauta mágica XL (no reserve)

The Magic Flute is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. This work presents a young flutist focused on interpreting her instrument, depicted against a deep blue background that envelops the scene and reinforces its musical and emotional character. The figure occupies almost the entire composition and appears captured in the midst of creative gesture, with closed eyes and hands carefully arranged on the flute, conveying concentration, sensitivity, and a deep connection with the sound. The painting combines female portrait, musical scene, and contemporary figuration. The wide yellow sleeves, built with energetic and visible brushstrokes, add volume and movement, while the blue vest and the skirt in shades of red, black, and orange create a powerful chromatic harmony. The flute runs horizontally across the composition and acts as a visual axis, balancing the verticality of the figure and guiding the gaze toward the performer’s face. The free use of luminous yellows, cobalt blues, warm reds, and greens applied to the face brings the work closer to Fauvism, Expressionism, and Post-Impressionism. The color does not aim to faithfully reproduce reality but to express the intensity of the music and the protagonist’s inner state. In this sense, there are affinities with Henri Matisse and André Derain for chromatic exaltation, as well as echoes of Kees van Dongen in the stylization of the female portrait. The gestural brushwork and the dynamic forms of the background suggest sound waves, emotions, and movement, transforming the musical performance into a visual experience. It can also be related to the Expressionist tradition of Wassily Kandinsky, who extensively explored the correspondence between music, rhythm, and color. The work not only represents a musician but also attempts to pictorially translate the energy of the melody. The title The Magic Flute also introduces a reference to the famous opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the best-known compositions in the history of music. This association adds a narrative dimension to the painting linked to mystery, harmony, and the transformative power of art. While not illustrating the opera directly, the image evokes its poetic imagery and turns the young performer into a nearly symbolic figure. The Magic Flute is a particularly attractive work for collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, women musicians, flutists, female portraits, musical scenes, classical music, Mozart, Fauvism, Expressionism, Post-Impressionism, and colorful painting with references to Matisse, Derain, Van Dongen, and Kandinsky.
