Oil on canvas depicting an elderly woman as she consumes a meal in front of the hearth, in a suggestive intimate North European interior. The composition, the characterization of the figure and the use of light recall the Flemish and Dutch painting tradition of the XVII century, with interesting affinities to the works of Quiringh Brekelenkam. An interesting painting of **Flemish school**, depicting a scene of daily life set inside a humble dwelling: an elderly woman, seated beside the hearth, is busy eating her meal, captured in a moment of great naturalness and intimacy. The composition echoes the tradition of Flemish genre painting, particularly attentive to the depiction of domestic interiors, the life of ordinary people, and small everyday gestures. Of particular effect are the figure of the woman, the large blue apron/skirt, the white headdress and the contrast between the luminosity of the figure and the dark background of the environment. The presence of the hearth, domestic utensils, firewood and objects scattered on the floor contributes to creating a scene with strong narrative character, in which the environment almost assumes the same importance as the protagonist figure. The work presents a warm, earthy palette, brightened by the intense blue of the dress and the lighter tones of the face and headdress. The lighting setup and the theme of the elderly woman eating fit within the North European genre painting tradition, making the painting particularly interesting for collectors of Flemish painting and interior scenes. **Technique:** oil on canvas **Subject:** genre scene / interior **School:** Flemish **Era:** to be explored **Author:** unidentified / to be studied frame including measurements 34x29.
