DPW Breitling Marina Militare – Swiss Military Diver – 200M A distinctive DPW Marina Militare military-style watch, produced using a stainless-steel case manufactured by Breitling. Created as a functional instrument rather than a conventional luxury watch, this unusual model combines robust Swiss construction, a highly legible black dial and a reliable quartz movement. The dial features the Marina Militare crest, large luminous hour markers, strong luminous hands and a framed date aperture at 3 o’clock. A practical conversion scale is printed around the dial, while the replaced grey diving bezel gives the watch a strong utilitarian presence. The stainless-steel case and dark exterior finish display scratches, marks and areas of surface wear, particularly around the case edges, crown and lugs. The grey rotating bezel is a later replacement and is not original to the watch. It displays signs of use but remains visually compatible with the watch’s utilitarian design. Buyers should take this replacement into consideration when assessing the originality and value of the piece. The black dial remains legible and attractive, with visible ageing to the luminous material on the hands and hour markers. The mineral crystal shows signs of use and may present fine scratches or surface marks. The watch is fitted with a generic beige textile military-style strap suitable for a wrist of up to approximately 24 cm. The strap displays normal signs of use, including light wear around the edges and adjustment holes. Although the case was originally marked as water-resistant to 200 metres, its present water resistance has not been tested and cannot be guaranteed. The watch should not be exposed to water without first undergoing a professional inspection and pressure test. Story & Heritage DPW traces its military-watch heritage to 1979, when its first watch was developed in collaboration with the 2nd Paratrooper Battalion of Italy’s Folgore Brigade. During this period, DPW used components and cases sourced from established Swiss manufacturers for certain models. On this example, the interior of the case is signed Breitling, providing a fascinating physical link between DPW’s military identity and one of Switzerland’s best-known specialist watchmakers. The Marina Militare dial, highly visible hands and markers, conversion scale and rotating bezel all reflect a design created around immediate readability and practical field use. Unlike a polished dress watch, its appeal lies in its purposeful construction, unusual background and connection to the era of specialist military timepieces. Because no original military documentation accompanies the watch, it should be described as a DPW Marina Militare model with a Breitling-manufactured case rather than as a definitively documented issued watch.
