Document - Lord Mountbatten – HMS Kelly – Annual Reunion...

Lord Mountbatten – HMS Kelly – Annual Reunion Dinner Menu & Photograph – 1966 + Siam Diplomatic Menu Description en anglais Historical Royal Navy collection relating to HMS Kelly and Admiral of the Fleet Lord Mountbatten of Burma. The main piece is the original menu for the H.M.S. Kelly Re-Union Association Annual Dinner, held aboard H.M.S President on Saturday, 28 May 1966. This finely produced menu, with embossed and coloured HMS Kelly insignia and its original blue cord and tassel, is particularly interesting for its direct association with Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who had commanded HMS Kelly during the Second World War. Inside, the official toast to “Her Most Gracious Majesty The Queen” – Queen Elizabeth II – is recorded as being proposed by “The President, Admiral of the Fleet Earl Mountbatten of Burma.” Also included is an original period black-and-white photograph showing Lord Mountbatten in naval uniform during an HMS Kelly reunion event, together with another participant wearing the HMS Kelly association badge. The lot is completed by an earlier small menu relating to a dinner organised by the Russian Legation in Siam, Bangkok, decorated with the crossed Russian and Siamese flags and written in French. An evocative group of original historical ephemera combining British Royal Navy, HMS Kelly, Lord Mountbatten and diplomatic history. Dimensions: HMS Kelly menu: approx. 19 × 12 cm closed; 24.5 × 19 cm open Photograph: approx. 16.5 × 12 cm Russian Legation in Siam menu: approx. 14 × 9 cm Vintage condition with signs of age and handling consistent with the period. Please refer carefully to the photographs, which form an integral part of the description.
