All auctions / Books, Maps & Manuscripts / Divers - Jean Casteyras
3 very beautiful books of French literature in a special edition with luxury editor’s binding. - "Excentric Voyages - Le Cinq Sous de Lavarède" by Paul D'Ivoi and Chabrillat. This is a rather rare copy because both names are inscribed on the very handsome Editor binding, whereas most only show the name of Paul D'Ivoi. Publication year 1927 at Editions Librairie Furne, Paris. A superbly illustrated work with 87 engravings in the text and 20 large engravings out of text on wood. Book in very good condition for its age, interior very fresh. Small signs of use here and there with no seriousness, see photos Dimensions 28 cm x 20 cm, 450 pages. - "Jean Casteyras, Adventures of Three Children in Algeria" by A. Badin. Publication year 1886 at Editions Hetzel, Paris. Magnificent editor’s binding with very beautiful gilding, all pages also gilded. Book in very good condition considering its age, only flaw: occasional and superficial foxing on the pages (see photos) Dimensions 25 cm x 16.5 cm, 270 pages. - "Without Family" by Hector Malot is a classic of French literature. Publication year 1932, Hetzel Collection at Librairie Hachette, Paris. In good condition, superb gilded editor’s binding and very beautiful illustrations. Very fresh interior. Normal wear mark on the cover (see photos), the binding of the page block to the cover is weakened, everything is cohesive but somewhat loose. Dimensions 28 cm x 19 cm, 564 pages. The story follows Rémi, a young orphan, on his journeys across France and Europe in search of his true family. The book explores themes of friendship, adversity and hope, while offering a realistic depiction of society of the era. This moving novel continues to move readers of all ages with its poignant tale. Weight excluding packing 4.8 kg. A pickup-point shipment very close to the home will be prioritized (UPS, Mondial Relay...) or directly to home if no nearby pickup point is available.
