Diego Valentín Díaz, 17th Century Spanish Baroque School - Christ

Descriptio Oil on canvas. The imposing figure of Christ, standing and radiating a celestial radiance, dominates the composition with his serene authority. His gray robe contrasts with the golden warmth of the background, where cherubs and angels float on ethereal clouds, their devotional gazes directed toward the divinity. At the Savior’s feet, two kneeling figures—a friar with a staff and a nun in a habit of the Society of Jesus—offer a profound expression of faith and humility, embodying Counter-Reformation piety. The scene, bathed in a light that emphasizes the spirituality of the vision, reflects Baroque drama in the richness of its folds and the psychological intensity of the faces. The loose brushwork and mastery of chiaroscuro demonstrate the influence of the Sevillian School, as well as the period’s devotion to mystical representations. Diego Valentín Díaz, active in Valladolid, developed a sober and devotional style, sensitively capturing the religious fervor of his time. With certificate. Dimensions: 189 x 241 cm.
