DENMARK. Penny, ND (1035-42). Lund Mint. Harthacnut (Hardeknud). NGC Unc Details--Peck Marked. Hauberg-26; not in Hauberg Collection; C. J. Becker-H 46/217; Hildebrand-141 (London); Bruun-1425; Weight: 1.00 gms. Moneyer: Thorsten. A most handsome piece with a lovely patina with speckles of turquoise. Since the specimen from Emil Glückstadt's collection (Copenhagen - 1924, lot # 226) now resides in the British Museum, this piece is likely unique in private hands. While the reverse - a copy of Harold's Jewel Cross type - is recorded only with this specific obverse, the obverse itself occurs in combination with a baffling 15 different reverses. Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here.
