DENMARK. Mark Klippe, ND (1677-1678). Kristianstad (Siege coinage). Christian V. NGC AU-55. KM-cf. 9 (copper); Hede-132B; Sieg-150.2; Schou-51; Aagaard-1M-1; Bruun-7275. Weight: 20.27 gms. Mintmaster: Hans Wilhelm von Meerheim. Uniface emergency klippe struck in lead during the Swedish siege of Christianstad (Kristianstad) Fortress during the Scanian War. Considering the fact that lead is extremely susceptible to both physical and corrosive damage this is by any reasonable standard a most attractive survivor. The 1 Mark was the highest denomination to have been struck and is today of legendary rarity with the present piece being the only recorded example outside the Danish National Museum. Estimate: €3,000 - €4,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). Ex: C. P. Humble Collection (Stockholm - 1852) Lot # 1226.
