DENMARK. Entry into Wismar Silver Medal, ND (1675). Christian V. NGC MS-61. Galster-101; JS-457; Ossbahr-60; Bruun-15336. Diameter: 56 mm. Weight: 73 gms. By Jeremias Hercules (IH). Without question one of the most beautiful, Danish baroque medals; rich, old, gray toning with hints of gold and multicolor and superb surfaces showing off the magnificence of this piece. A rare piece and easily the finest to come to the market - perhaps ever. For completeness one small spot of verdigris hides on the reverse by the king's neck must be noted. The Hanseatic city of Wismar, held by Sweden since the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1648, was besieged and conquered at the beginning of the Scanian War 1675-79. This early victory was celebrated with the royal couple's entry into the city on December 16, 1675. Please note that while the NGC holder says 'Dated', it is not. Estimate: €8,000 - €12,000.
