Property from the Estate of Sally Lloyd Steedman, Hilton Head Island, SC Description: Dempsey Bob (Tahltan/Tlingit/Canadian, b. 1948) Mask, signed and dated '01 on the interior, the carved face surmounted by a kneeling figure with mask, on a metal stand. Height on stand: 57 in. The authenticity of this mask was confirmed through the artist's gallery. Dempsey Bob is a Northwest Coast woodcarver and sculptor from British Columbia, Canada, who is of Tahltan and Tlingit First Nations descent. He was born in the Tahltan village of Telegraph Creek on the Stikine River in northwestern B.C., and is of the Wolf clan. He began carving in 1969 under the tutelage of Freda Diesing who was his earliest mentor and teacher. Bob's works blend traditional narratives and iconography with contemporary influences.Measurements: Height: 18 in. x Width: 7 in. x Depth: 7 in. Condition: Good condition, light wear.
