Delicate Negligé Necklace with Natural Pearl & Diamonds, c. 1920

With the white gleam of platinum, the delicate lustre of a genuine natural pearl, and sparkling diamonds, this necklace embodies the elegant lightness of the early 20th century. It is a style known in the history of jewellery as both a “négligé” necklace and a “lavallière.” This particular piece consists of a delicate anchor chain with a central pendant made of platinum-plated white gold—it is ultimately this combination of materials that led us to date the piece to c. 1920 rather than c. 1910. It is set with a fine natural pearl, diamond roses, and two larger old-cut diamonds in the round endpieces of the pendants. The two movably suspended pendants lend the design its characteristic elegance and create a lively interplay of light and movement. A classic antique piece of jewellery whose luxurious materials and balanced design have lost none of their sophistication to this day.
