An unusual gemstone sparkles at the center of this ring. It is a natural tsavorite, a rare variety of grossular garnet. Its extraordinary, intense green colour is caused by natural traces of vanadium, a rare element that is also responsible for the green colour of some emeralds. Tsavorite was discovered relatively late and is thus one of the most recent colored gemstones to have permanently established itself on the international jewelry market. Its discovery is attributed to the British geologist Campbell R. Bridges, who came across this exceptionally green variety of grossular in the border regions of Kenya and Tanzania in the late 1960s. The gemstone was named by Tiffany & Co. in 1974 after Tsavo National Park in Kenya, in the vicinity of which the first deposits were mined. In this ring, the tsavorite is accompanied by six sparkling diamonds that add white highlights to the ring. The gold and diamonds were sourced sustainably. They come from pieces of jewellery that, unfortunately, were in such poor condition that they could no longer be restored. Here, however, in a new form, they can begin a new life. The tsavorite was also previously set in another piece of jewellery. The ring is therefore entirely sustainable and, moreover, made entirely in Germany. We love this ring design because it’s simple and lets the beautiful gemstone take center stage. It also pairs wonderfully with other pieces—we have several variations available!
