Decorative tray - Morocco

A very large piece carved from a chunk of genuine thuya burl. The wood has been worked to respect its original shape: the organic and irregular contour of the root is preserved, and the hollowed-out section highlights the heart of the burl. The surface, finely polished and satin-finished, reveals all the richness of the wood, in deep tones of amber, copper and mahogany, with superb plays of light. The mottling, tiny knots and swirls visible on the surface are not painted nor drawn: these are the natural marks of the burl, presented as they appeared in the wood. No piece is identical to another, which makes this piece unique and impossible to reproduce. The thuya burl is a true rarity. It develops slowly in the trunk and roots of old trees, often centuries old, and it takes decades, even centuries, for it to reach a size large enough to be worked. Only a tiny portion of trees produce it, making it a rare, limited material and increasingly difficult to find. Another advantage: thuya releases a natural, warm and pleasant woody scent, which gently perfumes its surroundings. An authentic aroma, unique to this noble wood, that lasts over time. This piece can be displayed as a decorative object, placed on a coffee table, a console or a shelf, where it will serve as a true natural sculpture. It can also be used as a catch-all or decorative bowl to hold keys, jewelry or small objects. A beautiful acquisition for lovers of fine materials, natural pieces and exceptional craftsmanship.
