All auctions / Ethnographic / Decorative ornament - Taxco - Mexico - 925 silver brooch

Special Mexican brooch from Taxco, executed in solid 925 sterling silver and inlaid with real turquoise and chrysocolla. The brooch depicts a stylized Mesoamerican ceremonial figure or dancer, with a striking headdress and raised arms. The turquoise and green-blue stone inlay is mosaic-like in the silver; at the ends of both arms there are round turquoise cabochons. On the back marked STERLING, MEXICO, TH-43 and 925. The TH-43 mark dates from the Mexican registration system used from about 1979 and confirms manufacture in Taxco. Provenance: Taxco, Mexico Dating: ca. 1980–2000 Material: 925 sterling silver, turquoise and chrysocolla Dimensions: 4.5 × 4 cm Weight: 10 grams Condition: very good, with light natural signs of use and patina
