Decorative ornament - Artisanal - Horse

Handmade terracotta horse sculpture from the mid-20th century, a popular and expressive piece with simplicity that highlights the beauty of traditional modeling methods. Carved with refined forms and compact volumes, the animal is depicted in a serene and static pose, emphasizing the strength of its silhouette more than meticulous anatomical detail. The work stands out for its archaizing-inspired aesthetics, visible in the pronounced verticality of the neck, the mane rendered with regular incisions, and the stylized tail in a spiral form. These features give it a sculptural presence that evokes ancient Mediterranean equestrian representations and the language of popular ceramics, where formal expressiveness prevails over realism. The terracotta preserves its natural warm tones, enriched by a patina acquired over time. Remnants of slips (engobe) or pigmentation in reddish tones on the body create interesting chromatic contrasts and add visual depth to the surface. The irregularities inherent to manual modeling and artisanal firing are part of its authenticity and appeal. Mounted on a rectangular base integrated into the piece itself, the sculpture presents a balanced composition that facilitates display on shelves, in display cases, or in decorative spaces with rustic, Mediterranean, or ethnographic inspiration. It is in good condition, showing wear, small marks, and signs of aging appropriate to its artisanal nature and its age. A decorative piece with character and personality, capable of conveying the essence of traditional ceramics through an timeless representation of the horse, a universal symbol of nobility, strength, and freedom.
