All auctions / Furniture, Design & Mirrors / Decorative ornament (2) - Neo-Gothic Hackers - United Kingdom - Artistic Forge
They are two 19th-century artistic forge axes, pieces that embody that Art and Crafts spirit in which craftsmanship regains prominence over industrial production. Here the iron appears worked with a blend of strength and delicacy: broad curves, scrolls opening like stems, and small decorative swellings reveal the blacksmith’s hand, his rhythm, his pulse, his way of taming metal with fire. The vertical structure, topped with those spherical and turned elements, lends an almost architectural air, as if each axe were a small ornamental column. The base, flaring into volutes, provides stability and presence, creating a silhouette that is both functional and sculptural. The antique patina—with blue-tinged, greenish, and golden hues—adds depth, texture, and that charm only time can bestow. Originally conceived to hold torches or candles, today they work as perfect garden or outdoor adornments: characterful plant stands, decorative supports that elevate plants, lanterns, or small sculptures, or simply elements that bring light and atmosphere to a room or terrace. Their open design allows vegetation, shadow, or lighting to play with them, turning them into living pieces within the space. They are objects that combine craftsmanship, history, and versatility, capable of integrating into rustic, modernist, or contemporary settings without losing their identity. Certified shipping and careful packing.
