At the bottom, the bottle with TL is painted by hand (Joost Thooft & Labouchère), the mark of De Porceleyne Fles in Delft. The glaze flows from pinkish-rose on the shoulder in vertical bands to taupe and cream at the foot. Such a simple bottle form, decorated only with glaze, fits the Berbas line from around 1900. In a display cabinet with Delftware this is the only pinkish-rose piece. Description: A stretched neck with a lightly flared rim sits on a conical shoulder, below that a straight wall on a flared foot. The glaze is glossy and follows gravity in long bands. The foot has three glaze-free stacking spots. Under the foot stands the painted bottle with TL and the word Delft, with a few incised marks beside it. Museum Prinsenhof Delft describes a vase from circa 1900 with the same bottle mark, TL in a bottle with Delft. About the maker: De Porceleyne Fles (Joost Thooft & Labouchère) has been based in Delft since 1653. Joost Thooft took over the factory in 1876; since 1879 the hand-painted work bears the bottle mark with JT and the word Delft. Adolf Le Comte, art adviser since 1878, designed the Berbas vases: simple in form and only with glaze. In the interior: On a windowsill with side light, the glossy pinkish-rose of the shoulder catches the light, the taupe keeps the foot calm.
