A striking nineteenth-century view of Nubian life, after David Roberts. “Group of Nubians at Wady Kardassy” presents a finely observed gathering of figures in traditional dress, with shields, spears and the ruins of a temple in the distance. The contrast between the detailed figures and the softly rendered landscape gives this large sheet a distinctive presence. Lithograph David Roberts, from Egypt and Nubia, published by F. G. Moon, London. The image bears the printed facsimile signature of David Roberts. The sheet retains the English descriptive text beneath the illustration, headed “GROUP OF NUBIANS AT WADY KARDASSY.” One unframed printed sheet. The verso contains English letterpress text headed “Fragment of the Great Colossus at the Memnonium, Thebes.” Sheet dimensions: approximately 60.5 × 42.5 cm (height × width). Condition: age-related paper toning, scattered spots, minor creasing and wear to the margins and edges, as visible in the photographs. Please examine all photographs closely; they form part of the description. An evocative piece for collectors of David Roberts, Egypt and Nubia, historic travel illustration and nineteenth-century lithography. Carefully packed with protective materials and sent with tracked shipping.
