David Law - Crypto Robert Smith

Crypto Rock Series - Reconstituting a photo using photos of the represented artist. Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary imagery Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later, intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection. The Crypto series offers a contemporary re-reading of cultural icons through an immersive and vibrant pop art aesthetic. Each work rests on a mosaic construction made up of thousands of photos of the artist or of the subject. From afar, the image reveals a recognizable figure; up close, it unveils a wealth of visual details. Each fragment acts as a “wave,” evoking the subject’s artistic universe. The creation process is long and demanding, requiring precision and mastery of graphic tools. Considerable work is carried out on colors, light and the overall harmony of the image. Everything is created in an original and independent manner. Edition & Manufacturing Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated rear mount. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great longevity, color stability and a modern, contemporary look. Parcours Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops a writer-artist and musician practice including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the band FRENZY.
