David Law (1967) - Crypto Basquiat VIII

Crypto Rock Series — Recreating a photograph using photographs of the represented artist. Artist-Photographer – Creator of contemporary imagery A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, writer and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later, drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection. The Crypto series offers a contemporary re-reading of cultural icons through an immersive and vibrant pop art aesthetic. Each work rests on a mosaic construction composed of thousands of photos of the artist or the theme. From a distance, the image reveals a recognizable figure, while up close it unveils a richness of visual details. Each fragment acts as a “wave,” evoking the artistic universe of the subject depicted. The creation process is long and demanding, requiring precision and mastery of graphic tools. Intensive work is carried out on colors, light and the overall harmony of the image. Everything is created in an original and independent way. Edition & Fabrication Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with an integrated rear mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft anti-UV and anti-humidity lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, strong color stability over time, and a modern, contemporary rendering. Parcours Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual activity, he develops an authorial and musical body of work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
