This rare and sought-after, hand-signed by David Hockney Art Card shows the work “The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire in 2011 (twenty eleven) – 2 June,” an iPad drawing from 2011. The art card is hand-signed by David Hockney with a black pen at the bottom center. About the work After about twenty years in Southern California, Hockney returned to East Yorkshire. The landscape of his homeland became an important source of inspiration for him and led to a new, intensive creative period in which digital techniques gained increasing significance. As early as 2010, Hockney began using the iPad as an artistic medium. This allowed him to draw en plein air directly and to capture the changing light, the weather, and the passage of the seasons as they unfolded. “The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire in 2011 (twenty eleven) – 2 June” vividly demonstrates how Hockney combines traditional landscape depiction and drawing with the possibilities of digital art. The depiction shows a tree with numerous branching limbs and fresh green leaves in a springlike landscape. The bright greens, the light blue sky, and the lively line work convey the special atmosphere of early summer in East Yorkshire. Framing The Art Card is mounted in a floating manner on canvas within a acid-free double matting in an exclusive Swiss hand-made Plexiglas showcase.
