Daum - Philippe Starck - Vase - Cocoon vase - Glass - Very Small Strangeness

Philippe Starck for Daum – "La Toute Petite Étrangeté" Vase (1988) An iconic collectible of matte blue crystal glass, designed by the French designer Philippe Starck for the crystal house Daum France. Description This sculptural vase, titled "La Toute Petite Étrangeté" (The Very Small Oddity), is a mid-to-late 20th-century postmodern design masterpiece (1988). The piece challenges the traditional definition of a vase with its organic, bean- or cocoon-like form. Made of high-quality pâte de verre (glass paste) / crystal glass with a refined, matte finish in a deep, vibrant cobalt blue. Depending on the light, the object takes on a strikingly mysterious appearance. It sits perfectly on the boundary between functional design and autonomous glass art.
