D. Witschkanow - ► „The Mind’s Grip“ – Triptychon № I (XXL)

► "The Mind’s Grip" – Original Triptych Original, handcrafted triptych by Daniel Witschkanow, 2026 Description "Mind Under Siege" shows a person in a moment of intense inner tension. The central face is flanked by two side panels on which hands emerge from the abstract web of lines. Together they give the impression that the hands surround the head – between overwhelm, inner pressure, and the attempt to hold onto one’s own thoughts. The composition thrives on the strong contrast between deep black condensations and open white spaces. While the eyes, mouth, hands, and individual facial features stand out powerfully, other areas dissolve into countless fine lines. The three canvases visually interlock and produce a movement that runs across the entire triptych. From a distance the motif appears immediate and monumental. Up close, the depiction turns into a complex fabric of lines, droplets, loops, and overlays. It is precisely this tension between control and chaos, outer presence and inner unrest, that gives "Mind Under Siege" its distinctive emotional impact. About the image At the center of the work is psychological pressure, which remains invisible to outsiders. The face looks exhausted and almost transcendent, while the side hands enclose the motif like a clamp. They can be interpreted both as a protective gesture and as a symbol of burden, overwhelm, or spinning thoughts. The three panels are not separate scenes. Lines seemingly jump from one canvas to the next, linking hands and face into a shared emotional space. The boundaries between body, thoughts, and abstract movement begin to dissolve. The work deliberately allows different interpretations. It can tell of mental overload, self-doubt, inner struggle, or the need to momentarily shut out everything around. Thus the triptych becomes an intense confrontation with the inner world of humanity. Technique The triptych was created in the artist’s characteristic thread technique. For this, a high-quality, highly pigmented acrylic glaze is mixed with selected painting media until a flowing yet controllable consistency is achieved. The color is drawn, guided, hurled, and deliberately condensed with brush and hand. Through numerous layers, extremely fine lines and powerful black areas emerge. From this initially abstract weave, the face, hands, and the tense transitions between the three canvases develop. A key component of this technique is controlled chance. Each line responds to movement, distance, and the consistency of the color and cannot be reproduced identically. This gives the work a distinctive structure and keeps it a fully handmade unique piece with an individual signature.
