► “Empire of Fractured 3 Souls” – Triptych No. I (XXL) Original, handcrafted paintings by Daniel Witschkanow, 2026 Description “Empire of Fractured Souls” is a powerful triptych that unites three autonomous portraits into a monumental overall image. Each work possesses its own psychological presence, and yet all three paintings feel like voices of the same inner cosmos. The faces do not appear calm or closed, but are born from tension, memory, and emotional condensation. The composition thrives on a uncompromising interplay of black and white. Condensed black areas shape gazes, eye sockets, mouths, and facial contours, while fine, nervous lines run across the canvas, giving the figures a vibrating, almost electrified presence. This creates a visual language that is raw, modern, intense, and yet highly aesthetic. As a triptych, the work unleashes a particular force: the three portraits are not isolated side by side, but clearly relate to one another. An impression of an inner drama emerges, a sequence of states between harshness, vulnerability, overwhelm, dissolution, and assertion. It is precisely this emotional depth that makes “Empire of Fractured Souls” an extraordinarily strong statement piece for contemporary, high-quality spaces and collections. About the image At the center of the work lies the human psyche in its fragmentation and intensity. The three faces appear as different manifestations of a mental state – at times tense, at times exhausted, at times almost ethereal. Thus, it is not merely a triptych of portraits, but a cohesive visual dialogue on identity, inner struggles, and emotional fragility. The faces are not traditionally modeled; they repeatedly dissolve within the network of lines. This oscillation between recognizability and dissolution creates a strong tension. The figures seem simultaneously present and vulnerable, tangible and distant. Each portrait becomes a kind of soulful imprint, and the entire triptych a monumental study of inner states. Despite the reduction to black and white, the work possesses enormous depth and expressiveness. From a distance the faces appear immediate and dominant, up close a complex network of lines, drips, densifications, and intersections reveals itself. This multilayering gives the triptych an extraordinary artistic presence. Technique The triptych was created in the artist’s characteristic thread technique. For this, high-quality, highly pigmented acrylic paints, acrylic glazes, and selected painting media are processed to create a flowing, dynamic consistency. This allows fine linear traces as well as massive consolidations to be laid onto the canvas. The color is guided in spontaneous but controlled movements, dragged, flung, and layered over each other. In this way, multilayered linear structures emerge from which the eyes, noses, mouths, and the presence of the faces develop. This interplay of control and free movement endows the works with their special energy. A essential component of this technique is controlled chance. Each trace responds to movement, material, and consistency and cannot be replicated identically. Consequently, each painting is an unmistakable unique piece, and the entire triptych bears a strong, individual handwriting.
